From the moment I arrived all the staff were very welcoming and made me feel comfortable and relaxed.  I have since nearly completed my pain free treatment and no longer worry about going for my next appointment.  I cannot thank Nicola and her staff enough for being so understanding and patient.

Nic

Nicola is the best dentist I have ever visited. She is calm, friendly, positive and always puts me at my ease.
Jamie provided me with excellent advice, was very gentle, patient and friendly. He did a great job on my teeth!
This is a five star establishment.

Cheryl

I've been a patient of Nicola's for over 20 yrs and have always received the best of care. I have a chronic pain condition, so for long procedures, I have sedation. I actually enjoy going to the dentist as everyone there is friendly and kindness itself.

Moira

This afternoon I completed a treatment plan. I can’t thank Nicola, Roxy, the dental nurses and reception staff enough. They are all so incredibly understanding and kind. I no longer fear dental visits in the way I always have in the past. Thank you so much to a brilliant team.

If the thought of visiting the dentist makes you anxious, you’re far from alone. Dental fear can range from feeling uneasy before an appointment to experiencing such intense anxiety that you avoid dental care altogether. At West Grove Dental, we understand that simply being told to “try not to worry” doesn’t make those feelings disappear. For someone with dental anxiety or dental phobia, making an appointment can itself feel like a major achievement. That’s why care, patience and empathy are at the heart of our approach. There’s No Need to Feel Embarrassed About Dental Anxiety People can feel nervous about dentistry for many different reasons. You may have had a difficult experience in the past, dislike the sounds or sensations associated with treatment, feel uncomfortable about not being in control, or worry about what your dentist might find. Sometimes there isn’t one obvious reason at all. Whatever has brought you to this point, we’ll listen. Our role isn’t to judge you or make you feel uncomfortable about how long it has been since your last appointment. If you’ve been searching for a nervous dentist Cardiff patients can feel comfortable visiting, the first thing we want you to know is that your concerns will be taken seriously. Dental Phobia Care Is Part of Who We Are West Grove Dental was established by Dr Nicola Taaffe with care, patience and empathy at its core. Dr Taaffe has been Dental Phobia Certified since 2014, and supporting people who are frightened of dental treatment remains an important part of our practice. Our experience with nervous patients means we recognise that everybody starts from a different place. One person may need a little reassurance before routine treatment. Another may have avoided seeing a dentist for years because their fear feels overwhelming. Over the years, we’ve helped many nervous and anxious patients from Cardiff and the surrounding areas access dental care in an environment where they feel listened to and understood. Whether you experience mild dental anxiety or severe dental phobia, our team will take the time to understand what makes dental treatment difficult for you. We Take Things at Your Pace For nervous patients, feeling rushed can make an already difficult situation much harder. Our aim is to provide a comfortable and courteous environment where you have the opportunity to explain how you’re feeling. We can talk through your concerns and help you understand what to expect. You don’t have to pretend you’re fine when you’re not. Telling us what worries you can help us provide care in a way that feels more manageable for you. For some patients, building confidence may happen gradually. That’s perfectly reasonable. The important thing is beginning with a dental team that understands your concerns and is prepared to work with you. What If You Haven’t Visited a Dentist for Years? Fear can create a difficult cycle. You postpone one appointment because you’re anxious. A few months become a few years, and then embarrassment about the condition of your teeth makes returning feel even harder. Please don’t let that embarrassment stop you from speaking to us. Our focus is on helping you from where you are now. Taking that first step after a long absence can require a great deal of courage, and we want your experience with us to help rebuild your confidence in dental care. If you’re looking for a private dentist for nervous patients, our approach is centred on treating you as an individual rather than assuming every nervous patient needs exactly the same support. Can Dental Sedation Help? For patients with more severe dental anxiety or dental phobia, dental sedation may provide additional support and help make treatment feel more manageable. Sedation isn’t automatically the answer for everyone who feels anxious. Your individual circumstances and treatment requirements need to be considered first. If sedation may be appropriate for you, we can discuss the available options so that you understand what is involved and can make an informed decision about your care. You're in Experienced Hands Our team brings together a range of skills and expertise, including one of South Wales Oral Surgery Specialists. This allows us to support patients requiring different types of dental care while maintaining the patient-focused approach that matters so much to us. Most importantly, we never forget that there’s a person behind every set of teeth. For someone living with dental phobia, a successful appointment may mean something very different from what it means to another patient. Simply walking through the door, sitting in the dental chair or completing an examination can be meaningful progress. We recognise that. Take the First Step When You’re Ready Dental anxiety shouldn’t leave you feeling as though dental care is out of reach. With patience, understanding and the right support, we can help make visiting the dentist feel more manageable. At West Grove Dental , we’re proud to be recognised for our work with dental phobia and remain committed to helping nervous patients feel listened to, respected and cared for. If you’re nervous about visiting the dentist, contact West Grove Dental in Cardiff today . Tell our team how you’re feeling when you get in touch, and we’ll help you take that first step at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
